Snippet of the Month: Solutions

NewsSnippetMarch14

I am sure that you cannot have failed to notice the vast number of ‘solutions’ that are on offer to us these days. The variety of signage shown on company vans specifies such things as – ‘building solutions’, ‘cleaning solutions’, ‘energy solutions’, ‘tyre solutions’, ‘oven cleaning solutions’, as well as ‘management solutions’, while even the chimney sweep offers ‘solutions’. The list is endless. All these companies claim that they have the ‘solution’ to our ‘problem’.

This brings to mind the main ‘problem’ with people; their wilfulness that causes them to be separated from God. The term used to describe this wilfulness is now very old fashioned – ‘Sin’.

The Bible says – ‘For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ Romans 3 v 23 and ‘For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ Romans 6 v 23.

Many people today are unfamiliar with the concept of sin. There is a tendency to be guided by how they feel, and consequently if something makes people feel happy they assume it must be morally acceptable. The ‘feel good’ factor is a major issue these days. People may not be thieves, liars, or murderers and they don’t hurt other people, therefore they do not feel that they have a problem that needs a solution. Often if a person feels a twinge of conscience they do the most spiritual thing that they know, they light a candle and that makes them feel better.

Man can offer many solutions to life’s problems, but he doesn’t have a solution to the problem of sin.

It is clear from the Bible that God is prepared for the judgement of all people. He offers us a solution and basically it is our choice whether to accept or reject it.

How thankful I am that God has provided the solution to our problem. Jesus has been punished on our behalf so that we will not have to suffer the consequences of our sin. That is a solution that costs us nothing. We need to be truly sorry before God and have a life changing belief in the completed work of Jesus. As believers in God’s solution we must show the world what has been done for us. We must also thank and praise God for such a solution that is free to all.
