Church of God Aberkenfig

Bible Exposition

There is so much that we can learn from God’s word to help us with our daily lives and to give us hope for the future. Our time of Bible Exposition offers us an opportunity to do just that. It gives us a chance to enjoy listening to one of the men from the church share their thoughts on a passage of scripture or a topic. The message could either be a teaching subject or a talk to lift us in our daily Christian lives. These times together are refreshing and enlightening and all are welcome to attend.

Our time of bible exposition, or explanation, offers an excellent opportunity to meet together and learn something new from God’s word. Subjects are wide ranging and usually offer practical help and advice on ways to live our lives effectively as Christians in the modern world. The meeting takes place between 19:30 and 20:30 on Tuesday evenings, usually once or twice a month. Check the Events Calendar for information on the next meeting.

Subjects

On some occasions the subject may be one taken from a pre-set syllabus, whilst on others the choice of subject will be as considered appropriate by the person responsible. It is essential that the individual delivering the content has given prayerful consideration to what he is going to say so that the Holy Spirit will give him a message from God that is relevant to the people listening at the time of speaking.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Two Segments

Our time together, as with many other meetings of the church, is split into two segments. We usually start with a hymn, then the speaker will talk on his subject for around 30 minutes. The second session, again of about half an hour, is usually a time of prayer, offering us an opportunity to bring our requests to God as a church, but it can be a time of discussion, offering the rest of the church an opportunity to contribute their thoughts on the subject that we have just been hearing about. Only men who are church members (men who have been baptised and added into the church) may participate audibly in the prayer meeting (as taught in Acts 2:41-42, and 1 Corinthians 14:34), but everyone may participate in the informal discussion, should it take place. Visitors are welcome to participate in silent prayer and singing should they wish.

Refreshments

Refreshments, such as teas, coffees, cold drinks, biscuits and cake are provided at the start and at the end of our time together.
